Philanthropy in the State of Kuwait has long roots. Kuwait was a pioneer in the field of philanthropy before the discovery of oil. Islam has an important role and impact on the state in General and the practice of philanthropy. The general policy of the state of Kuwait gives philanthropic work considerable space to be practiced freely and creatively, which has distinguished Kuwait as an international humanitarian center. This chapter addresses the history of Kuwaiti philanthropic work and its relationship with Islam, including demographics, the context of Islam within the state, state policies affecting philanthropy, distinctive examples of philanthropic work in the state, and recommendations for future research that could contribute to the development of philanthropy in Kuwait.
