Chapter 6 in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education, 2025, pp 114-131 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Apart from addressing the broader socio-economic realities within which entrepreneurship education is contextualized, we are also cognizant that many of the approaches incorporated into entrepreneurship education in the country are derived from Western models and thus fail to address the local context (Subramanian and Paanakkal, 2018a, 2018b). This chapter elaborates on Chitkara University Village Adoption Initiative, a program focused on entrepreneurship in rural Punjab, driven by the union of theoretical backbone and practical implications. Using qualitative case study methodology, the research leverages data from interviews, surveys, observation, and document analysis to assess the initiative's effect on entrepreneurship, economic development, and social change in the adopted villages. The study calls for contextualization of entrepreneurship education in India to take stock of socio-cultural diversities like caste, gender, community networks, institutional infrastructure, as well as the challenges and opportunities in the economy of rural India.
