The role of social capital in entrepreneurial learning for technology innovators
Yin Mon Myint
Chapter 8 in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education, 2025, pp 150-192 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter explores the role of social capital in building entrepreneurial skills and learning, specifically designed for technology innovators, in their endeavours to develop new technologies, products, and services that have potential benefits for the future of societies. The primary example employed is the “12-week Impulse programme”, which is implemented at the Maxwell Centre, Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. The Impulse programme was established in September 2016 to support a new generation of technology innovators in transforming high-potential technology innovations into viable commercial propositions. The programme aligns with the spirit of Cambridge, which is known as Europe's largest technology cluster. The continued success of the Cambridge cluster relies on nurturing the ongoing entrepreneurial, collaborative spirit, and innovative power of the new generation. Impulse was established with the mission to contribute significantly to this endeavour.
