Chapter 8 in The Elgar Companion to Energy and Sustainability, 2024, pp 137-150 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Nowadays, the world is facing the severe challenges of environmental pollution and energy crisis. The development and utilization of low carbon energy sources have become an inevitable trend in the long-term development of countries around the world. This chapter discusses the innovative development and application of low carbon energy sources. The low carbon fuels mainly hydrogen, ammonia, methane or natural gas, syngas, methanol and ethanol are introduced, and their practical applications in energy equipment are discussed to verify their usefulness as fuels for industrial applications. In addition, the basic properties, flame combustion characteristics, and chemical kinetics of various low carbon fuels are described in detail.
