Chapter 18 in How to Conduct and Publish High-Quality Research in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, 2025, pp 273-289 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Abstract: In this chapter, we recommend several practices that help investigators write publishable qualitative research papers, although not all the practices must be included in one submission. These practices include: (a) Writing clearly and concisely (absolutely necessary); (b) Showing that your research discovers something new about people at work or adds nuance to what has already been discovered; (c) Demonstrating theory development or elaboration and/or hypothesis generation; (d) Documenting that your results add to the literature; (e) Showing how your findings pave the way for future (quantitative) research; (f) Considering what is important that your research does not cover and what, within your available resources, you can add to your existing research plans; (g) Working collaboratively with at least one other investigator to help ensure reliability; (h) Identifying your study's limitations (absolutely necessary); and (i) When appropriate, combining qualitative and quantitative methods to balance both methods’ strengths and limitations.
