Abstract:
This chapter explores the use of crowdsourcing as a tool for collecting data in Industrial-Organizational (I-O) Psychology research. Crowdsourcing platforms like Amazon's Mechanical Turk, CloudResearch/TurkPrime, Prolific, and Qualtrics Panels offer diverse and cost-effective participant pools, facilitating rapid data collection for various research purposes. This chapter reviews the prevalence of crowdsourced samples in top-tier I-O journals, discusses the strengths and limitations of major crowdsourcing platforms, and provides best practice recommendations for ensuring data quality and integrity. By leveraging crowdsourcing, researchers can enhance the generalizability of their findings and address unique research questions, particularly in studies involving socially sensitive topics. This chapter emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate platforms, employing robust fraud detection methods, and ensuring fair compensation for participants to maintain high research standards.
