Chapter 22 in How to Conduct and Publish High-Quality Research in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, 2025, pp 348-360 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The idea of “open science” as a philosophy to guide research has become increasingly popular in psychological science over the past 15 years. In this chapter, we address how researchers in I-O psychology can borrow from open science principles and practices to bolster the quality of their research. We outline and define the concepts of open science and research quality and consider the benefits of open science for I-O psychology researchers, practitioners, and related stakeholders. Then, we discuss several open science practices and tools that can be used in service of improving research quality. We conclude by encouraging the even greater adoption of open science by researchers in the field of I-O psychology.
