Chapter 2 in The Elgar Companion to Decentralized Finance, Digital Assets, and Blockchain Technologies, 2024, pp 35-56 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
We provide an overview of decentralized lending. We first clarify the meaning of decentralized lending, explaining how decentralized lending differs from centralized lending and discussing the most prominent use cases for decentralized lending. We then discuss technical details of the specification of lending protocols, including the method for setting interest rates and the rules surrounding collateralization and liquidation of loans. We conclude with a discussion of the academic literature that examines decentralized lending protocols.
