Chapter 22 in Handbook of International Business Policy, 2024, pp 406-424 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter reviews recent developments on IB policies, focusing on the recent increase of restrictive inward FDI measures adopted by different jurisdictions. The chapter concentrates on what has happened since early 2020, with the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, and also with the war due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a period of intense activity in terms of formulation and implementation of numerous restrictive and protectionist policies vis-à-vis inward FDI. After analysing the recent context and background underlying such restrictive measures, and complementing other more conceptual and macro-oriented chapters in this Handbook, the chapter takes a case-based approach, highlighting the policy packages adopted by some of the most relevant (and active) countries in this regard, addressing as well the specific case of recent developments in the EU on this matter.
