The impact of COVID in Québec: telework, coworking and their effects on work and city environments

Abstract: COVID-19 has had huge impacts on society, including in the labor market and therefore on the situation of various cities. In the context of the COVID pandemic, government and city leaders have radically increased the possibility of telecommuting and working from home, especially before vaccines became available. This has had a huge impact on cities, and particularly city centers, but also on mobility between cities and rural regions. We analyzed mobility from cities to regions, as well as the development of telework and of coworking spaces. These last two elements will determine the future trends for work and for cities in particular, in Montreal and Québec, Canada.
