Abstract: Smallholder farmers are critical to global food security and maintain a unique position in agricultural biodiversity. They manage small land areas with goals of household stability and subsistence, contributing significantly, especially in developing regions. However, they confront challenges such as limited market access, inadequate financial services, climate change vulnerabilities, and insufficient access to modern inputs and secure land tenure. Addressing these issues requires a comprehensive approach, integrating policy reforms, financial support, and infrastructural enhancements. Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) provides a valuable framework for assessing the social impacts on smallholders, identifying areas for improvement in working conditions, economic self-sufficiency, and equitable value chain participation. The sustainable integration of smallholders into the agricultural economy is essential for achieving broader developmental and environmental objectives.
