Abstract: The social hotspot database (SHDB) provides access to large amounts of social data on the country-specific sector (CSS) level, which enables practitioners to assess social risks associated with specific industries and product systems. SHDB can be used to complete a study or provide a projection of social risks in the initial phase of a survey by identifying critical points that will be explored in depth in subsequent steps. The data provided on which the priority of the process units is defined are based on two criteria: (1) labor intensity in worker hours per unit process and (2) risk for, or opportunity to affect, relevant social themes. The database contains data for 26 subcategories using more than 160 qualitative, quantitative, and semi-quantitative indicators on social risks, opportunities, and positive impacts. SHDB, based on the GTAP Input–Output database, covers approximately 13,000 country-specific industry sectors in 244 countries.
