In particular, it touches upon the definition of well-being from a public policy perspective, mentioning the numerous initiatives to overcome the traditional measures based on GDP. It describes how the well-being of humans is inextricably linked to ecosystem health and conceptualized in the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. It then discusses interpretations of well-being within sustainability science, outlining its multidimensional nature and the presence of both subjective and objective elements. The text highlights the linkages between the social, environmental, and economic dimensions in the assessment of well-being. It also provides an overview of integrated approaches like the concept of “safe and just operating space,” which connects social well-being with planetary boundaries. Finally, it explains social well-being as the primary area of protection in Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA), assessed through the impact pathway approach which connects stakeholder categories and impact subcategories to midpoint and endpoint impacts.
