Abstract: Considering the overexploitation of natural resources, fossil fuel consumption, increasing energy demand, and climate change impacts, the term environmental sustainability is vastly adopted by industries and governments. It encourages those parties to make decisions based on long-term consequences to promote sustainable management in different sectors such as forestry, agriculture, construction, waste management, water management, energy sources, etc. A typical model of sustainable urban transition is discussed, along with the key indicators at different levels for the assessment of environmental sustainability that are highlighted.
