Chapter 11 in Reimagining the Gendering of Sport, 2025, pp 154-157 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The benefits of sport participation for girls and women are well documented; however, not all experiences in sport are positive for girls and women. In this reflexive narrative toward healing, I highlight my experience as an elite athlete training and competing in a sport culture wherein athletic performance was prioritized over the person. My story provides insight into how we might better support and celebrate women athletes in elite sport holistically.
