Second-life batteries

Chapter 106 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Energy Economics, 2025, pp 415-416 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Second-life batteries (SLBs) or retired EV batteries (REVBs) refer to the reuse of lithium-ion batteries that are originally manufactured for electric vehicles and then repurposed after reaching their end of life (EOL) in automotive applications. There are many applications in the REVs but there is an absence of standardization in their pricing. There is a lack of comprehensive regulations which brings barriers of widespread materialization into the market.
