Convergence in CO2 emissions

Chapter 19 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Energy Economics, 2025, pp 69-72 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The question of whether countries exhibit income convergence is one of the most studied research topics in the growth literature. This long-lasting interest of researchers in this topic has also led to testing convergence not only for income but also for other indicators in other fields, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. For more than two decades, hundreds of studies have examined CO2 convergence, and the body of literature is still growing. In this entry, we investigate convergence in CO2 emissions from a conceptual perspective and then discuss the statistical tests associated with these concepts by applying some straightforward empirical investigations on CO2 emissions.
