Energy measurement

Chapter 45 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Energy Economics, 2025, pp 171-174 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
A wide range of current environmental concerns demands a deep understanding of how society, the economy, and nature interact to make a whole. Also, there is a debate on how to address environmental problems, decrease environmental pressures, mitigate environmental risks, identify barriers impeding progress and business investments, and decode environmental limits that potentially restrict growth. To this effort, multiple energy measurement units present the indicators needed to gain feedback for policy formulation and adjustments. In addition, the use of different energy measurement units enables us to understand better the impacts of the choices and options made to assess, measure, and calculate performance rates in the context of sustainable development. Consequently, it would be beneficial to enrich research efforts and include many energy measurement units when investigating or testing phenomena or theories at the interface of the economy with the natural environment.
