Legal compliance for energy

Paul Atagamen Aidonojie

Chapter 78 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Energy Economics, 2025, pp 297-301 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: The global environment has been experiencing severe deterioration arising from harmful energy sources that are not environmentally friendly. Scientific studies have shown that the uncontrollable use of harmful energy sources will result in a catastrophic depletion of the ozone layer, resulting in severe climate change. The global community has, through various legal frameworks, sought to regulate harmful human activities resulting in climate change. However, the depletion and deterioration of the global environment seem to persist. In this regard, this entry adopts a doctrinal method to examine sustainable energy as a potential means of complementing global laws on climate change. The entry finds that sustainable energy is a potential means of curtailing climate change, though there are challenges in adopting sustainable energy. It therefore concludes and recommends that the global community should lend more effort toward addressing the challenges and promoting the use of sustainable energy.
