Chapter 21 in Research Handbook on Corporate Governance in China, 2025, pp 421-437 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this chapter, we review corporate governance practices that are essential to stimulate corporate innovation and present evidence illustrating principles applicable to China. To link academic findings with the changing environment faced by Chinese enterprises, we discuss many current events in China, such as the upgraded rules for independent boards, the registration-based IPO reform, dual-class shares rules, the multi-tiered stock exchange system, stock market liberalization, ESG reporting requirements, etc. By doing so, we attempt to illuminate China-based research in this field and provide academic references for the Chinese government and practitioners in triggering innovation in the face of opportunities and challenges.
