The race against time - escaping the Malthusian trap
.
Chapter 14 in Food Security, 2023, pp 144-150 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Global population continues to increase with approximately two billion extra ‘mouths to feed’ expected by 2050. The only way to ensure they will enjoy the same degree of food security as today is to increase agricultural productivity. The race between expanding global population and increases in agricultural productivity is explained. The factors that lead to increased agricultural productivity are explored and the constraints on realizing the needed gains are outlined.
