Hardship - the toll of rising prices

.

Chapter 3 in Food Security, 2023, pp 26-37 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Reductions in the availability of food such as poor harvests, livestock diseases and natural disasters lead to rising food prices which force difficult decisions on how to allocate individual/family resources and cause hardship even if a famine is not the outcome. The likely effects on nutrition and health are outlined. The methods that can be used to limit spikes in food process are discussed.
