Food aid - the last resort
.
Chapter 6 in Food Security, 2023, pp 65-74 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
When agri-food supply chains fail and provide no food security, emergency food aid is the only way to provide a modicum of food security to vulnerable populations. The circumstances when emergency food aid is required are outlined. The challenges in providing emergency food aid are discussed and how some of the challenges can be overcome is outlined. The role and consequences of food aid when there is no issue with food security are also pointed out. The international institutions involved in garnering and distributing food aid are reviewed.
