Chapter 7 in Food Security, 2023, pp 75-89 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: While natural disruptions to food production - floods, droughts, diseases, etc. - are often the cause of poor food security, man-made crises such as war and domestic conflicts can also be major sources of food insecurity. The ability to control the availability of food can also be used to achieve political ends. How wars and civil wars impact food security is outlined. The fragility of the ability of institutions that attempt to provide food security in times of conflict is explained. The food security challenges associated with population displacements and refugees are discussed.
