Human needs in welfare states?
.
Chapter 1 in Human Needs and the Welfare State, 2024, pp 1-12 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The first chapter introduces the issues in the book and the central research questions that the book is expected to answer. Paradoxes and contradictions are highlighted, for example, the lack of knowledge in existing literature, and the difficulties there will be in answering these questions. This includes that there may be a difference between societal and individual assessments of needs. Further, that there is the risk of normative positions trying to influence what shall be understood as need. How to make decisions is also discussed. In addition, there is a short overview of the content of the individual chapters in the book.
