Moving towards an idealistic stance to address grand challenges

Abstract: This chapter invites researchers to flirt with the (ideal) idea of having the capacity to solve grand challenges, and to move away from calls for mitigating grand challenges. The idealistic stance calls for both inward and outward introspection of the systems that researchers are part of. The idealistic stance calls on researchers that are addressing grand challenges to be willing to complexify, bridge theory and practice, engage with the future, constantly question, and embrace diverse ways of knowing. The idealistic stance can only be achieved through methodological pluralism.
