Digital Globalization of Creative Industries: an introduction
Stephen Chen
Chapter 1 in Digital Globalization of Creative Industries, 2025, pp 2-20 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter provides an overview of how developments in digital technologies have impacted creative industries over the last 30 years and a preview of the other chapters in this volume. It highlights four new ways that digital technologies are currently impacting creative industries (i.e., design of creative products and services, dissemination of creative products and services, democratization of the creative production process and development of cities, regions, and countries) in addition to the three ways that digital technologies impacted business in the early 2000s (i.e., disintermediation, disaggregation, and digital convergence).
