Abstract:
“Dancing with the Stars” presents a unique case study of a transdisciplinary project integrating dance, heritage, astronomy, and nature. This study explores the application of digital technologies in two nightly dance performances held in towns facing extreme risk of depopulation: the prehistoric Dolmen of Magacela (Badajoz) and the Astronomical Observatory of the Monfragüe National Park (Cáceres), a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The project utilized live streaming to broadcast the shows, generating unique digital content that significantly contributed to the strategic positioning and internationalization of these small tourist destinations, each with a population of fewer than 500 inhabitants. The project not only enhanced local resources and boosted entrepreneurship but also fostered social participation and strengthened the sense of pride and belonging among residents. A comprehensive analysis, both quantitative and qualitative, was conducted to compare the impacts of in-person attendance with digital streaming experiences. This analysis highlights the project's role in addressing demographic challenges and its contribution to creative tourism.
