Chapter 14 in Digital Globalization of Creative Industries, 2025, pp 247-265 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Often, media-sharing, knowledge-based, and service platforms, as well as social media sites, form the backbone for the operation and customer engagement of various creative business entities in areas like design, fashion, photography, and the performing arts. Given that the Caribbean region relies heavily on tourism and its creative industries as a direct source of revenue, they play a crucial role in the diversification and growth of the Caribbean's creative economy. These industries are among the most dynamic sectors in the Caribbean region because they can connect people, organizations, and resources regardless of their physical location while providing a sustainable livelihood for individuals that also serves to preserve the unique Caribbean culture. This chapter strives to examine the impact that global digital platforms have on the expansion of creative industries in the Caribbean region by providing a comprehensive discussion on the digital experiences of creative workers in the Caribbean, the importance of these digital platforms to the survival of creative small medium-sized enterprises and their sub-sectors, the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic had on the Caribbean creative industry, and the role that the creative economy plays in sustainable development in the Caribbean.
