Abstract:
Originating from psychology and sociology, framing perspectives are increasingly applied in various social science disciplines, including management and organization studies. Framing refers to the ways information and events are presented. Framing explains how actors construct meaning through their choice of words, images, and context, which in turn shapes the understanding and interpretation of the social world. Framing theory helps explain various social phenomena, including social movements, contests over meaning, innovation success, and organizational repurposing – phenomena already intensively focused on by the SAP community. In this entry, we illustrate the application of framing theory in SAP research by selecting a few exemplary articles.
