Chapter 4.53 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice, 2025, pp 554-556 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The term “strategy tools” is often used interchangeably with the term strategic tools and broadly refers to the artifacts, objects, materials, methods, models, frameworks and technologies employed during the work of strategy. For the purposes of the current Encyclopedia entry, strategy tools are perceived as the tools that are employed during the strategy process to assist in making and executing strategy. For more details about related concepts and particularly about the strategy actors who employ these tools, such as corporate strategists or external/internal consultants, please refer to the See also entries below. The following sections provide the reader with an examination of how the term has been dealt with in the wider management studies and within the Strategy-as-Practice (SAP) literature, and a presentation of future research potential in relation to the term.
