Microfoundations

Marko Kohtamäki, Rodrigo Rabetino and Nicolai J. Foss

Chapter 5.13 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice, 2025, pp 650-653 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: SAP and microfoundations are two distinct research streams focusing on the practices (specifically SAP) and agency (which are part of microfoundations) which originate from the micro-level of organizations and society. Because they share a concern regarding the micro-level, it is important to clarify their commonalities, differences, and interactions. By merging the insights from both approaches, we can yield valuable understanding, provided we appreciate their unique characteristics.
