Development of the SAP community

Paul Spee

Chapter 6.1 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice, 2025, pp 672-675 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This entry brings to the fore the development and evolution of the SAP community. Although mostly hidden from view, a ‘research community’ provides the backbone of scholarship, supporting the ascent and rise of a scholarly field. The SAP community is a global network of like-minded scholars, with an openness to embrace a plurality of perspectives and approaches to explore strategizing. Rather than by affiliation or membership of a particular professional association, the community unites scholars by exploring a common interest. To illuminate the development of the community, this entry sketches characteristics defining the SAP community, how establishing a robust research infrastructure supported a thriving scholarly field that stretches the globe connecting scholars from Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and South America.
