Activity theory

Emma Gritt and Emma Forsgren

Chapter 1.1 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice, 2025, pp 9-11 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Over recent years activity theory has shown much to offer strategy-as-practice research. Paula Jarzabkowski has been influential in combining these two approaches to provide a more holistic understanding of strategizing in organizations. For example, an activity-based approach to strategy-as-practice captures the interrelationship between individuals, their strategy practices, and tools within a cultural and historical context.
