Chapter 2.12 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice, 2025, pp 151-153 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Habitus is a concept that belongs to a long sociological tradition, and highlighted in the work of Pierre Bourdieu. Habitus is the set of perceptions schemes, appreciations, beliefs, and thoughts that constitutes our dispositions for action. Consequently, it is the driving force for practice. Habitus has been mobilized in strategy-as-practice research to better account for the profile of practitioners. It could further be used to understand new forms of strategizing, such as open strategizing, and to explore the embodied, sensitive dimensions of strategy-as-practice.
