Institutional logics

Torben Trapp and John Amis

Chapter 2.14 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Strategy as Practice, 2025, pp 158-161 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Institutional logics and strategy-as-practice may seem, at first blush, unlikely bedfellows. On the one hand, scholars engaged with institutional logics have traditionally been concerned with macro-phenomena at the field level while those drawing on strategy-as-practice have been much more concerned with the micro activities that take place as strategies are enacted on a day-to-day basis. However, as we will explore here, this variation in perspective provides the basis for generating insights into some of the most important questions that we confront as scholars of organizations and the environments in which they exist.
