Abstract:
Organizational studies experienced a visual turn emerging from the discursive and linguistic turn in the 1990s that gained momentum in the 2000s. Since then, visuals and visualizations have been conceptualized in various ways. For instance, the visual mode of meaning construction situates visuals in practice, strategic, dialogical, and documentary approaches. Likewise, visuals are instantiated as material objectives, cognitive stimuli and discourses that enable conversations, interpretations and sensemaking, emphasizing their communicative power. They hold distinct statuses and play varied roles in strategy research and practice depending on how they are approached and applied. This article will primarily focus on the strategic application of visuals in practice.
