Abstract:
Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is a constructivist form of discourse analysis (DA). It is concerned with how language is used by a variety of actors within their respective social contexts – in written, spoken, and symbolic forms – to construct perceptions and influence social realities such as identities, power relations, and social norms. CDA is premised on a dialectical relationship between language and social structures where the former influences and is influenced by the latter, and thus language constitutes a crucial if not core aspect of social practices. As an approach, it is concerned with how actors do power and resistance by analyzing the linguistic means by which they express, produce, reproduce, and resist social structures of power, dominance, and inequality. CDA offers a comprehensive methodological and conceptual framework for investigating the intricacies of strategy development and implementation processes.
