Chapter 26 in Research Handbook on Sustainability Reporting, 2024, pp 474-486 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The development and widespread use of the Internet and social media have substantially altered how businesses communicate. Because it addresses a variety of stakeholders, sustainability information, which has been receiving increased scrutiny, may be more impacted and subject to more engagement from, and interaction with, stakeholders. This chapter focuses on how various organizations use such new media to report on this kind of information. More particularly, we give a general overview of how the private sector, public sector organizations and NGOs use new media to report on sustainability, and we conclude with some future research opportunities.
