Chapter 2 in Women and War Economies, 2025, pp 24-37 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Chapter 2 provides an overview of war economies. It explores the factors that contribute to the outbreak and persistence of armed conflict, assessing where economic factors fall within these. The chapter describes the phenomenon of war economies, exploring what these are and how they function, and examining some of the different types of war economies and war economy industries. The chapter ends with a discussion on the broader economic impacts of war (beyond the formation of war economies) and how these affect conflict-affected populations.
