The promotion of audiovisual creation in Latin America

Alejandra Luzardo

Chapter 20 in Handbook of Creative Regions, 2025, pp 397-417 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter analyzes the rise of the Latin American audiovisual industry, highlighting its enormous economic and cultural potential. It is structured around four key axes for its development: human capital, access to financing, infrastructure development and public policies. The text argues that the region has unique competitive advantages (locations, languages), but needs inter-ministerial policies, specialized training, innovative financing models (including regional funds and corporate venture capital), and modern and secure infrastructure to compete globally. Finally, the importance of intellectual property, the fight against piracy and the strategic use of artificial intelligence to maximize the economic and social impact of the sector is emphasized.
