Abstract:
This study adapted a methodology for classifying creative industries to Brazil's economic structure and data availability. Using RAIS (Annual Social Information Report) for formal employment data and PNAD (National Household Sample Survey) for both formal and informal labour, the research addressed RAIS's limited informal sector coverage by prioritizing PNAD. Creative occupations were classified using the CBO 2002 system, aligned with the UK's SOC 2000 for international consistency, with a 20% creative intensity threshold defining industries. The methodology identified 16 creative industry categories, including IT services, broadcasting, and the arts. By late 2023, Brazil's creative economy employed 7.7 million workers, 38% informally. This framework highlights the sector's reliance on informal labour and offers a foundation for its support and understanding.
