Exploring the crossroads of ‘united in diversity’ and varieties of capitalism

.

Chapter 2 in Varieties of Capitalism and the Political Economy of Differentiated Integration in Europe, 2024, pp 15-60 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter provides the theoretical background for the considerations conducted in further parts of this book. The authors first present the theories connected to European differentiated integration which is complemented by a review of the most influential literature devoted to this increasingly important issue. The second part focuses on comparative capitalism scholarship. The authors elaborate theoretically on the varieties of capitalism school which has attracted a great deal of attention over the last two decades.
