Abstract: Increasing reliance on cloud computing and big data has transformed the legal landscape, reshaping the way legal professionals access, process and secure information. This chapter examines the evolution of cloud computing, its impact on legal practice, and the challenges it poses in terms of data security and jurisdictional concerns. It also delves into the legal implications of big data, particularly in terms of predictive analytics, predictive compliance, and data protection. The chapter also explores open data initiatives, highlighting the contributions of Tim Berners-Lee, Aaron Swartz and projects such as Creative Commons. Finally, it discusses the intersection of legal informatics and predictive analytics, highlighting how big data enables legal foresight but also raises significant ethical and regulatory challenges.
