Giovanni Ziccardi

Chapter 5 in Legal Informatics, 2025, pp 228-252 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Abstract: The integration of technology into legal practice has given rise to new disciplines such as legal design, legal tech and coding for lawyers. This chapter first explores legal design as a tool for improving legal communication and accessibility, focusing on the work of the scholar Margaret Hagan. It examines the importance of coding for legal professionals, reviewing educational initiatives such as King's College's ‘Coding for Lawyers’ and Harvard's ‘CS50 for Lawyers’. The chapter also discusses the growing role of programming languages (such as Python) in legal analytics. It looks at the rise of legal tech solutions, markdown languages for legal writing and the development of AI-powered legal tools. Through practical examples, the chapter also highlights the importance of digital literacy and technological skills for modern legal professionals.
