Introduction: transitions, Grand Challenges and big promises
.
Chapter 1 in Strategy for Sustainability Transitions, 2024, pp 1-16 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this chapter we outline our general perspective on transition and transition strategy. Before mapping out the logic connecting the subsequent chapters, we locate ourselves in the rugged conceptual landscape surrounding the transition idea and highlight the need for transition perspectives to be underpinned by a deep understanding of governance. Governance is required to make it happen. Governance configurations are the context to formulate strategies which can move communities and society on a more sustainable path. In most cases, transition strategies are not only located in governance, requiring the tools and legitimacy of governance; they will need to transform governance itself along the way.
