Integrating intersectionality into social work practice with individuals and families

Abstract: This chapter explores how intersectionality can be utilized across four phases of social work practice at the individual and community levels: engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation. Drawing on previous work examining intersectional practice implications in social work literature, the chapter will focus on integrating an intersectional approach in each phase of social work practice. By demonstrating the application of intersectionality across the core four phases of practice, we seek to elevate the ways that applying an intersectional lens can guide practice behaviors and approaches and can contribute to a more nuanced approach to addressing the complex needs of individuals and communities.
