Abstract:
In an increasingly interdependent world economy, transnational relations are also gradually characterized by interdependence. The strategic direction of the European Union’s (EU) foreign policy orientation towards the People’s Republic of China (PRC, China) now includes the context of the risks and challenges arising from the EU’s potential dependence on certain Chinese imports. Using Keohane and Nye’s concept of interdependence, this chapter examines the EU’s attempt to realign its EU-China political strategy under the condition of its interdependent relationship with China, with the aim of strengthening its economic resilience through specific policy instruments. To this end, potential vulnerabilities from the EU’s perspective are examined and policy instruments to achieve this goal are identified.
