Abstract:
This study investigates recent Sino-Japanese cooperation in connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs). While economic incentives, such as market expansion and strategic asset acquisition, drive this collaboration, it goes beyond conventional approaches like the OLI paradigm, which overlooks the influence of cultural and social factors. Culture is increasingly recognized as a pivotal element in explaining innovation and strategy. In the context of China and Japan, specific cultural traits related to business, management, and innovation seem mutually appealing, creating “complementary differences”. Despite economic disparities, both nations face common social challenges that CAVs are expected to address. This study seeks to bridge a gap in the existing literature by exploring the cultural and social factors underlying Sino-Japanese collaboration in dynamic industries such as the automotive sector.
