Why community economic development may need rethinking
Thomas S. Lyons ()
Chapter 1 in Rethinking Community Economic Development, 2025, pp 1-9 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter begins with a brief discussion of the relevant history of community economic development. It then discusses various definitions of the field and uses these to identify some generally agreed-upon attributes. The challenges facing community economic development in the twenty-first century are enumerated and adaptations to theory and practice to meet these challenges are broached. The chapter concludes with an overview of the ensuing chapters of the book.
